Diabetes Educators Support Ongoing Treatment

Over the course of his career as a health coach with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Tim Penix has helped numerous patients undergoing treatment for chronic conditions. A member of the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE), Tim Penix has worked closely with many patients with diabetes, teaching them about effective management of their disease.

In recent years, diabetes educators have made significant progress in improving outcomes for patients with chronic diabetes. Diabetes educators teach patients about a wide variety of diabetes management techniques, from monitoring blood sugar and taking medication to implementing healthy eating and exercise habits. By working closely with members of a patient’s primary-care team, diabetes educators play an integral role in the treatment process and contribute to the patient’s overall plan. Diabetes education has earned recognition as an important part of diabetes care, as indicated by its inclusion in Medicare and other health insurance plans.
